waking the dead series 9 promo, bitches!

thanks to the lovely midknight productions i am now in possession of the only waking the dead series 9 footage on the internet. this will be the final series of the show(along with spooks), as the "wise" people of the bbc have decided to cut costs in favour of ANOTHER season of doctor who. but, there is still (probably) 8 episodes left. so sit back, watch boyd beat-up some potential criminals and try to work out why exactly every season there is a new young female detective.... they expire so quickly. hmmmm.

back and begging for stuff.

so i'm back. feel bad for my extended hiatus, but it was essential. my last month has been hectic. full of assignments, exams, physie highs and lows with some work mixed in for good financial measure. all except the latter are over now for another year and i can't wait for 2011 to begin. EXCEPT for chistmas. it's pretty wrong that my first post back is grubbing for presents but as my sister is scared of shopping for my gifts i now present you with my updated list of summer/christmas must haves.... well things i must have.

i'm known now for my love of internet shopping and it really is a simple reason. i like stuff no one has or, maybe even didn't think they wanted until they saw it. 'hipster' is a disgusting word, but i really am one. combined with a huge dollop of geek for good measure. which is where i will begin.

battlestar galactic was and will always be my favourite show of all time. when it ended my sadness was cushioned by its sister show caprica. a few years ago bsg released 2000 limited edition cylon toasters. they sold out and to get one now you will be looking at a price tag upwards of $500. so, instead of maxing out mums credit card, you can now get cylon toast from a caprica toaster here. on sale for a measly $65.

MODEKUNGEN are an amazing swedish brand. although, their site is entirely in their native tongue it is reasonably easy to navigate. this is their handvaska med nitar undertill bag.... no idea how to say that but has me going, oooh pretty. the brand suits my post-punk loving self but is still classic enough to be rocked with a cardie. will set you back 899 SEK or $132. another reason to shop online, our dollar rocks!

i'm a bit confused as to why i want these israeli desert boots. maybe i think they will make me look like ziva off ncis. meh for $70 it's well worth the consumer indulgence. palladium boots have some other rather less conventional shoes going on here and they are all very well priced considering how well made they are.

it just isn't summer without new swimmers and sunnies. this year black milk will supply the former and ray-ban the latter. the red galaxy one piece really does sell itself. just look at its amazing weirdness, and will set you back $85. quite reasonable, no? the black milk brand really is amazing, it's site is a print lovers dream. check out their other swimmers and leggings: R2D2, Astronauts and Skeletons.

ray-ban's have been on my christmas list for years and years, and i haven't really ever bothered to ask for a pair because they were simply too expensive. well the american dollar sucks and they aren't as out of your reach as you may think. a pair of wayfarer 2's will cost you $145, have a look at their many many colour options for two tone magnificence.

'think geek' really is nerd heaven. as someone who habitually loses book marks and even the book itself, this find could not have come at a better time. the book rest lamp is everything i have ever dreamt of and more. well, not really but it is very cool looking and more importantly nifty. combine this with a pac-man alarm clock, going to sleep and waking up will never be the same again.

now, please excuse my indie indulgence but i just must have these shirts, to turn into singlets.... well for mum to turn into singlets. kurt cobain and count duckula. bit of a questionable combo but still, these both make me squee with love in two very different ways. firstly, the daniel johnson shirt worn famously by kurt cobain is the personification of my disenfranchised teenage years. ooh the angst. and count duckula, well it's count duckula! possibly the best children's show EVER!

onto dvds and books. stocking stuffer essentials. let's pretend for a second that i have room in my apartment for anymore box sets and/or novels. hypothetically, it's not surprising that i need every season of waking the dead, peep show and jam and jerusalem. the english really do comedy and serial killers better than any other nation in the world. ebay is always worth a look for box sets, even after you consider postage, you can save a considerable amount of $$$. penguin classics are always a cheap and cheerful addition to any christmas morning. 'wind and the willows', 'madame bovary', 'journey to the centre of the earth', 'middlemarch', 'mrs. dalloway' and 'decline and fall' by evelyn waugh have been on my ebay watch list for the past month or so.

lastly, as i sit watching the first day of the ashes i'm reminded of the fact i have never EVER been to see live international cricket. for something that played such a big part of my childhood summers. so i'd love tickets to go watch the english FINALLY get what is coming to them. ticketek have some very good deals for families and even a concession price for us poor university students. a silver ticket as the SCG will cost you $90 for an adult (and $77 with concession).

well that's it. hope these sites give you some ideas for presents (not just for me, though keep me in mind) that might be a bit out of the box but fit someone you know and love.

i still miss you, bsg.

there is absolutely nothing i don't like about this video. check the portrait art's youtube profile. the person who draws these is my new role model..... you know, coming from someone who can't even sketch an accurate stick figure.

twitter validates my existence!

a few weeks back i posted on my facebook, 'omg john larrouquette is now following me on twitter.... the same day he decided to follow leonard nimoy! omg!' and SHOCK HORROR no one cared! heathens! so, i felt the need to repeat myself with a melodic tune from the master comedian and actor from the hilarious, boston legal.

check it here. cue applause!

also, obviously quitting twitter didn't take.... gillard began her run world domination and twitter became essential. sue me!

more than just a ship.

been a while since i had a serious squee about anything....been more in a winger mood. ha! but, that is all about to change. have been re re introduced to the wonderful show firefly and its movie prequel of wonder, serenity. the former is believe by most, if not all, internet nerds to be the best television show to be cut off before it had a real chance to fly. cancelled by the fox network, who we all know is known for its very 'high' standards and tv excellence, at the end of its 14 episode first season. scandalous!

a space western by joss whedon, the man that brought children of the 80s and 90s buffy the vampire slayer and her cheap knock-off brother angel, continued doing great work for the network only to have his heart ripped out and eaten by the hungry vampire himself rupert murdoch! not the cool vampire with the sexy leather pants, the really evil republican kind.

anywho, if you like sci-fi AND westerns then get your eyeballs glued to this show and its movie counterpart. it is like star wars but without that pesky 'force' thing. oh and fist fights, robbing trains and a psycho ninja ex-ballerina....what's not to love?

01 July, 2010

the surprising adventures of sir digby chicken caesar.

as i listened to the two bogans next door have a massive 2am fight this video jumped into my mind.... "what are you a positcuba?" i'm pretty sure he meant 'prosecutor' but problem is they weren't even drunk; at least the characters in this mitchell and webb sketch have that to blame. moreover, they are funny. homlessness is funny. what, i can be whimsical!

baby me, and you'll be peeing through a catheter!

there really is something so very very wrong with my ears and how they really really do not like the word 'baby' in reference to me. 'babe', seems to be slightly more acceptable but it does have to come from the right person. it was pointed out to me this week that such endearments must be earned. with friends through trial and tribulation. still, the independent person in me distinctly dislikes being called 'babe' by any man.

i think that it creates a hostility in me that probably has to do with power struggle and domination. now, before you get excited i don't mean domination in the wips and chains kind of extreme way but, there might be an element of that. being called 'that word' (i'm sorry i can't even type it anymore) by a man suggests some sort of immediate submissive dynamic that, to me, always feels like i am being talked down to. as though, i am just the little woman waiting for the man's commands that, i am an almost infantile sexual partner who will agree to without question.

i don't think so!

there is a reason i have included a picture of the lovely agent dana scully. the title of this post is thanks to her and also as a teenager i saw her as a great example of a strong, independent modern woman. even if she did have a penchant for getting kidnapped and shot at.

goodbye luddy, HELLO huddy!

ok so house fans, SPOILER ALERT! don't watch the below vid if you want to be surprised by the shows latest instalment! if not, and you either don't give a crap about the show or love to be spoiled then check this out! this episode was shot using a canon 5d mark ii. the cameras comparably compact size allowed them to shoot in a much more confined space and also made the film easier to process and manipulate in its digital form.

so this is the very last scene of the episode, 'help me' and season 6. can't wait to see what the next season holds. it's an all new ball game! hooray! go david shore! bucking the 'moonlighting effect' as the piece of crap that it is!

oh what fresh hell is this?

what would roger the alien do? today i got some new eps of american dad! i don't care what people say, it is better than family guy! all thanks to the greatness of roger the alien! a guy who is usually always drunk and dressed in elaborate costumes with wigs and hilarious catch phrases. this weeks episode about the apocalypse, 'raptures delight', sees roger take on the absurdity of religion from an 'outsiders' perspective. if only i was a clever as this lazy other worlder.

oh i love your religion for the crazy! virgin births, water into wine....it's like harry potter but it causes genocide and bad folk music.

what's the rapture? its the first sign of the end of the world when good christians ascent to heaven! ascend?! you're flying now!

i hope i haven't missed the bit where the three chinese guys give perfume to the star baby ha ha it's like the diaries of a madman.

radiohead and a detoxing house. MAGIC!

the greatest combo ever! my love for both the band and the show grew exponentially when i saw the house md season opener. well done thom york and katie jacobs! i love you both!

23 April, 2010

you know, it's all my mothers fault i'm this way!

as i contemplate my future winter fashion choices and what i will put with what, it dawns on me the obvious impact 1950s and 60s fashion icons have on me. in some subliminal way, twiggy, bridget bardot, marianne faithfull, lauren bacal, edie sedgwick and of course janet leigh with their unique brand of amazingness have snuck into my wardrobe dreams. yes i dream of clothes, what of it! it's a nice reprieve from the giant badger with his good friend the knife wielding clown! but i digress....

i'm not naive, i know that fashion goes in cycles and my love of these amazing women is a result of what is 'cool' at the moment. still, i think my love for these radtastic ladies ('cept ole edie, not sure how to reason her away. that's her there btw.) is perhaps a product of my upbringing. good looking, clever, independent but still with nice husbands, wealthy, blonde = my mum. doesn't really explain why i have their haircut, but i suppose it could shed some light on why i do seem to enjoy somewhat of a 60s lifestyle. i mean for god sake i just bought a bicycle from that decade!

art, film, music, the sexual revolution, the pill, BARBARELLA, more sex, pop art, easy rider, the free speech movement, the original star trek series, hippys, mick jagger before plastic surgery, minimalism, 2001: a space odyssey, CREAM (the band, you dirty birds), the civil rights movement, screen printing, the beatles, more drugs, oceans eleven (original NOT remake), beehives, more rock n' roll, mini-skirts, the mamas and the papas, goldfinger AND dr. no, warhol, the bikini, jimmy hendrix, nehru jackets, planet of the apes.

i could go on, but i really should stop now while i can. anywho, i know i have an incredibly idealised vision of this era but still assassinations, wars and prime minister swimming misshaps not with standing, if the tardis were to come by i'd definitely ask william hartnell for a lift back to a more revolutionary time.

'the moonlighting effect'....gah its all the 80s fault!

SPOILER ALERT for bones fans, if you don't want to know what happened in this weeks (in america) 100th episode do not read any further.

now that i'm done with the legalities, on with the rant.

after watching this weeks great episode i was left sad and angry. the impassioned bitch session i had with my sister this afternoon has spurred on this post. the fab ep finished with the booth/bones love going the way of the dinosaurs. the possibility of them ending up married in a house in the suburbs with 2.5 children ended in a spectacular car crash of disappointment. g-man booth declaring his love to odd-ball scientist bones was met with a definitive no, on the later character part. fans of the show have jumped on the idea of killing the producer of the show hart hanson for shooting down all their hope and i'll admit i did this to for about an hour or so. that is, right up until i figured out whose fault it REALLY was. moonlighting!

bit of tv history, moonlighting was a show in the late 80s. half way through the shows run gave fans what they wanted. madeline and david having hot hot sex after two years of ust (unresolved sexual tension, you all don't want to know how i know that). this has been largely attributed to the shows declining ratings and the shows eventual cancellation. after this producers have for some reason figured that americans don't want happy couples on their screens. they prefer them moody and well, horney.

there are many MANY examples of this in recent tv shows. mulder and scully are a prime example. the x files creator chris carter was terrified that the show would get cancelled if he put his dynamic duo in a official romantic relationship. even when they did eventually 'hook up' in season 7 it was never clarified and even in the shows season 8 finale is wasn't made clear if scully's son was mulder's also. why is this? is it really all about keeping audiences happy and thus keeping the studio happy? or does no producer have the guts to subvert the norm, have some confidence in their characters and their writers and give the shippers what they want?

now i know this is trivial but it is really starting to piss me off. how many episodes must i watch of house and cuddy make googlie eyes and spew dialogue with barely veiled sexual subtext? EVEN when we all thought house and cuddy had finally done the underpants charleston, it was all a drug addled delusion! but no we are forced into the same dysfunctional cycle season after season. 'common greg yaitanes take a risk! put them together or rip them apart at this stage i no longer care, anything is better than this emotional merry-go-round!

the thing of it is, 'the moonlighting effect' doesn't actually stand up to much serious scrutiny. the reason the show wasn't renewed for a 4th season was because cybill shepherd (madeline) and bruce willis (david) HATED each other. the set was a battle ground by all reports. that and glen gordon caron (the shows creator) is a hack, for gods sake he went on to create medium. eeewwww. no one likes to see patricia arquette employed.

for a longer more eloquent account of television romance check this article out.

beaker rick rolled me....bastard!

EVEN the muppets are doing their own version of this song. lol damn brian and family guy, this is getting out of hand. i found this after looking for swedish chef cooking tips.

mnk on different continents once again.

i might not dream of jeannie but my sister nicole still does and has been bugging me for a post centred around the fab tv show. it has taken me a few weeks but here we go. now this might be cheating just a little bit, but i'm actually gona talk about my sister and not the actual tv show.

now my sister is moving to america next month for a whole year. very exciting stuff! but im gona miss the little tyke. who else is going to talk to me about bones, jane austen or the moronic things kimberley has been doing during week?

what can i say, ill miss the kid with her o'neillish humour and beatrix potter charm. in some ways she is just like jeannie. kind, pretty and lives in a magic lamp. ok so maybe just kind and pretty.

10 March, 2010

of course you're still single take a look at yourself you dumb slut

needs to be an actual book. the latest episode of how i met your mother, has some serious golden moments. spoiler alert! the latest instalment took me back to the good old days of the show. robin and guns, marshal and food, ted being a girl, lily being insightful and barney being an ass. but then the cool lil twist...barney isn't really that bad.

couple that with j-lo as the 'anti-barney' guess star, another musical number, stormtrooper helmet vomit and a catchy nonsensical marshal song best episode EVE....well this season.

07 February, 2010

great zombie bands. its sad when you find they're really dead.

THE UNICORNS are my latest musical find. thanks to super trendy canadian friends, how i met your mother and the shuffle settings on my ipod i have a shinny new love. if indie music is your thing and you are not adverse to a bit of amp feedback then give these guys a listen.

but, the sad thing is they are no longer together and the album, 'who will cut our hair when we're gone?' was their only studio release. if you can get your hands on its amazingness i applaud you. check out their tunes on myspacemusic, i really love the song 'tuff ghost'. you can download yourself a copy but if your a music puritan and dont like to, well steal music, then click here for full info at amazon.com. they are amazing. you're welcome.

holidays suck for the homeless

i have a ridiculous amount of time on my hands and very little money once i pay for the essentials like: rent, electricity, wine and american apparel tops. makes holidays far less fun i can tell you. on the up side i've gone through a months worth of internet in 4 days and have almost finished my latest book.

still, its like a physie comp without the big hair and large amounts of fake tan. isn't as fun, even if it probably is better for me in the long run. then again i do now get to watch the bill episodes from the 90s...only so many times u can watch jim carver self destruct before you want to give him a slap and tell him to grow the bloody hell up.

so the job hunt must begin, i suppose. tomorrow, will do the walk of shame from cafe to cafe like a whore without a pimp. meh. the bdo, good pals and mums love and cooking will help a lot!!

aunty michelle has a brand new play thing

so to be perfectly honest i think this whole blog thing is mad. then again im already on facebook and twitter....as eleanor would put it how can i put up anymore narcissistic shit? seems its pretty easy.

last night i quickly discovered that writing stuff down that pisses me off is actually really cathartic. felt much better about my shit arse life. well slightly less stabby, gota start somewhere.

not much to write about today, sad really that i've already run out of stuff to say BUT have to give super props to the wonderfully talented caitlin! she is the wizard of banners and responsible for my pretty one, thank you so much mate. love it!

oh, i've also decided that sheldon cooper is possibly the best wing man EVER! even better than barney. big call, big call.
